An intellectually engaging work suited to listeners who appreciate lyrically substantive alternative music that challenges genre boundaries and embraces compositional ambition. The age-old comment about albums of this length making decent single albums doesn’t apply. Jeff Tweedy’s latest solo release is a triple album, and at no point does the quality drop throughout. There is a lot to like here. This is a triple album. Discussions about less is more when artists release albums with multiple discs are rendered redundant. I would have been happy to have heard more. Given Jeff Tweedy’s prolific nature, there is probably more that will surface in the future when they get around to marking an anniversary of this album. It doesn’t stray too far from the sounds of previous solo albums and Wilco albums. That recommendation made the subscription all the more worthwhile.
